Prost Stage Productions was founded in 2022. It is a partnership between Joel Frapart and George Morris, who have been writing plays together since 2012. They met at the Pocket Sandwich Theater doing a show of Fu Manchu: The Melodrama. They quickly realized that they had complementary twisted senses of humor, playwriting aspirations, and tastes in potent potables.
Recently, our partnership grew to include Lindsey Humphries. She has been putting up with us since meeting on the set of Fu Manchu too! When we realized that we might need an adult chaperone, we turned to her for help bringing our ideas onto the stage.
Each of George & Joel’s playwriting endeavors begin and end with a toast, which is where the name for Prost Stage Productions comes from. Prost (or Prosit!) is a traditional German, Swiss, and Austrian toast, dating back to Roman times. It comes from the Latin verb prodesse, which means “to agree (with)” or “to be useful.” The most direct translation is probably “May it benefit us!”
As you begin new endeavors, what rituals bring you inspiration or luck? We all have out routines, from waking up and taking a shower and looking both ways before crossing the street to knocking on wood to ward off bad luck or putting a thumb to the forehead after a burp. Ours is sharing a libation to loosen the words and make them flow.
Our oeuvre includes:
• Minions of an Evil Corporation – a 3-act play where villains are the protagonists
• The Prohibitioners – 3-act comedic treatment of The Untouchables
• Children of the Night – 3-act vampiric family dramedy.
• Dear @$$holes – 1-act piece asking “Just who writes advice columns??!”
• Tinder Man – 3-act homage to all things Nic Cage
• BBC Censor – 1-act piece envisioning Monty Python chafing under government “oversight”
• Cupid’s Interrogation – 1-act piece where Cupid’s arrows just aren’t working
• Sleepy Hollow & the Hex of the Headless Horseman – 3-act stage adaptation of Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow“
• Boars Head Tavern, Eastcheap (writing act 2 now) – 2-act late-night play, with more adult themes & bawdy humor. What if the Greek muses ran a tavern?
• Adverse Possession (still in treatment) – a horror story about a group of Occupy Wall Street activists choosing the *wrong* house to squat in.
Links to a synopsis of each work will be coming soon. Writing about writing is such a navel gazing divergence that it may take a while… 🙂
