Synopsis of Children of the Night

Three vampire daughters standing behind Grimlocke, the vampire sire of Children of the Night.

Take family drama, dark comedy, period settings, vampires, and a healthy dose of schadenfreude. Blend them all together, and you’ll get something like Children of the Night. It’s a great date-night play or just a chance to escape reality for an evening. Children of the Night has romance and sword fights, as well as puns, bondage, and family feuds.

This vampire dramedy is a 3-act tale of migration & transformation. It follows a father who loves his adult daughters, yet also craves retirement. The daughters run the gamut of vampire lore, from Nosferatu style monsters, through Anne Rice seductive vamps, & up to sparkly millennial bloodsuckers. Along the way, they seek love, validation, and a few good meals.

There’s a lean 10-person cast. That number can easily be expanded with extras and character break-outs. Many of the parts are crosscast so that a person killed off in one act can come back with a fresh face and try again. Join us as we tour Eastern Europe, London, and the Outer Banks!

Children of the Night was selected for the 7 Plays in 7 Days Festival in 2018. This included a staged reading. Being featured in the Festivale led to a 2019 production with Calavera Theatre Company at the Bath House Cultural Center of Dallas.

Children of the Night

Written by Joel Frapart & George Morris.

Being a vampire father is quite difficult, especially when your three vampire “daughters” won’t do as you say.  One is waifish, the other is oversexed, and the third one creates chaotic carnage wherever she goes.  How best to describe this play?  Think “Fiddler on the Roof”, but with vampires.
